Get Your Fastener Customers Off the Phone and Email

Part 1 of 12 · October 18, 2026

A fastener order is rarely one item. It is forty lines: 3/8-16 x 1-1/4 grade 5 hex caps in zinc, the matching nuts and lock washers, a box of #10 self-drillers, some 1/2-inch threaded rod, a handful of clevis pins. It comes in by phone, read off a list by a buyer who is half reading his own shorthand, or by email as a PDF that somebody in your office retypes line by line.

Every line is a chance for a mistake. Coarse thread instead of fine. Grade 5 instead of grade 8. Zinc instead of plain. A 1-1/4 that should have been a 1-1/2. Each of those turns into a return, a second delivery and a production line waiting on a bolt that costs pennies.

Why fastener order entry costs so much

The trouble with fasteners is that the dollar value per line is small and the number of lines is large. A big part of your inside sales team's day goes into keying orders that are worth a few dollars a line. The more lines, the more time, and the more chances to transpose a diameter or a length.

Email does not fix it. "Same as last month, but double the 5/16 flange nuts" still needs somebody to find last month and work out which flange nut. And when a contract manufacturer's planner sends a list at 8 p.m. after a schedule change, nobody reads it until morning.

How The Fastener App takes the order instead

The Fastener App gives each customer a store under your name, with your catalog organized the way the trade knows it: hex cap screws, socket products, nuts, washers, machine screws, self-tapping screws, threaded rod and studs, anchors, rivets, pins and retaining rings. Real photos help a buyer tell a flange nut from a nylon insert lock nut before ordering. Then customers have several ways to order without calling:

  • Barcode scanning of bin labels on the line or in the crib, by phone camera or scanner gun.
  • Quick order for buyers who know your part numbers.
  • Upload a spreadsheet straight into the cart, ideal for a long kanban list or a bill of materials.
  • Copy and paste two columns, part number and quantity, from a spreadsheet or an email.
  • Reorder a past order or saved items.
  • Customer part numbers, so an OEM orders with its own print numbers.

For customers who keep emailing or faxing POs, the PO inbox reads them with AI and turns them into orders. A person on your team approves each one, so nothing ships on a guess. Track an order shows each order's status, which cuts the "did it ship" calls. If you run your own trucks, delivery routes and the driver app plan open orders onto your trucks in driving order, with a photo and signature at the drop.

After hours and the people you already have

When the planner can upload tomorrow's list at night, it is waiting in the morning with clean part numbers and quantities. Your team reviews and ships instead of decoding.

That does not mean you stop talking to customers. Fastener distribution still runs on expertise: the specials, the plating questions, the engineer who wants to know whether a grade 8 is really needed. The point is to free your inside team from typing so they have time for that. The Fastener App works with your existing ERP, so orders land where your team already works.

Start with the accounts that send the longest lists. A customer that sends a fifty-line order every week is the one who saves the most time by uploading it, and so do you.
