Quoting Hard-to-Find Welding Parts, From a Photo to a Price

Part 9 of 12 · October 18, 2026

The requests that take the most time at a welding counter aren't the routine reorders. They're the puzzles. A welder brings in a burned-up gun part with no number on it. A maintenance lead sends a photo of the nameplate on a twenty-year-old machine and asks for a drive roll kit. A contractor needs a specific stainless filler for a job spec, and he needs to know today if you can get it.

Then there's the bid. An estimator is pricing a job and needs filler metal, gas, consumables and PPE for a crew of six for three months, and he needs your numbers before his own bid is due.

These requests matter. They're usually urgent, they often lead to bigger orders, and the distributor who answers them well earns the routine business too.

AI Quick Quote

AI Quick Quote lets a customer say or type what they need in plain words and get a priced quote back. "A 33 lb spool of .035 ER308L, a box of .035 tips, two #6 alumina cups and a pack of 3/32 2% lanthanated tungsten" becomes a priced list matched to your catalog.

The quote re-check goes further. Right after a quote shows, every line still being checked is checked again against the full description and updated on screen. When a customer pastes a list from a competitor's invoice, every crossed line shows the competitor's invoice text and full description beside your match, so the buyer can see exactly what's being compared.

Get this for me

No welding catalog has everything. Older machines need parts that aren't stocked anymore, robot torches have their own consumables, and specialty fillers for exotic alloys are usually special orders. Get this for me lets the customer ask for anything they don't see. The request goes to your purchasing team and comes back as a quote.

Your reps can do the same from the field. When a customer asks for something unusual on a visit, the rep can buy it directly or send it to purchasing, instead of writing a part number on a scrap of paper.

The email quote desk

Contractors and estimators often email material lists when they're bidding a job: filler metals, gas, consumables, abrasives and PPE for a crew. The email quote desk prices and answers quotes requested by email, so the list doesn't sit in an inbox while your counter is busy. Every decision the agents make is logged so your team can review them.

How it fits together:

  • A welder types or describes his standard items and uses AI Quick Quote.
  • For the drive roll kit on an old machine, he uses Get this for me and purchasing takes over.
  • The estimator emails a materials list for a bid and the email quote desk prices it.
  • The customer accepts the quote in the app when the job is awarded.

Why this is where you win

Any online seller can ship a box of tips. What welders remember is who found the part for the old machine, got the special filler for the stainless job and priced the bid list in time for the contractor to win it. Quick, accurate answers on the hard requests build a reputation that price alone can't buy.

Special requests also tell you what to stock. Items that keep coming up through Get this for me belong on your shelf, or in a customer's consumables cabinet.
